NV Goodwill Ambassador inaugurated HCI SIBI Hub in Nepalgunj

The Goodwill Ambassador of National Volunteer, Nepal’s National Cricket Team Captain Mr. Paras Khadka today inaugurated Nepal’s Homegrown Social Innovation and Business Incubation Hub in Nepalgunj, Banke. After six successful years of impactful service to the society, Himalayan Climate Initiative (HCI) has spread its work area launching its Social Innovation and Business Incubation Hub (SIBI Hub) in Western Nepal.

 

HCI is a youth-driven Nepali non-profit organization committed to social inclusion and climate resilience. It advocates Nepal to adopt a zero-carbon economic growth path. HCI delivers triple bottom line impact by incubating, supporting and sustaining social enterprises and philanthropic initiatives. Established in 2011 by a group of eminent Nepali entrepreneurs, HCI has already rolled out 12 socially responsible startups. National Volunteer is one of the start-ups incubated by HCI SIBI Hub.

 

The HCI SIBI Hub in Nepalgunj, established with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will initially work in six districts, Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Surkhet, Kailali, Pyuthan. The HCI SIBI Hub will reach out to the youth in these districts through the National Volunteer (NV), an official volunteering network jointly setup by the Government of Nepal and HCI.

 

Mr. Paras Khadka, Nepal’s National Cricket Team Captain as well as Goodwill Ambassador of National Volunteer Nepal said at the launch of the SIBI Hub that by 2030, National Volunteers aim to gather 100,000 volunteers who will work to spread sadbhaw/ compassion together in the nation. The range of services that HCI provides to the youth across the nation puts the SIBI Hub in an advantageous position to connect to and tap into a large pool of enterprising young brains of the country. 

 

The launch program was attended by local government officials, representatives of organizations working in similar field, local youth and various renowned personalities including Mr. Anil Keshari Shah, President of Bankers’ Association Nepal and CEO of Mega Bank as special guest and Mr. Roshan Shrestha, Deputy Chief Technical Advisor of Nepal-German Inclusive Development of the Economy Programme (INCLUDE).

 

Mr. Anil Keshari Shah, President of Bankers’ Association Nepal and CEO of Mega Bank said, “Mega Bank including other banks are keen to support innovative enterprises and are happy to join the hands of Nepali youth to solve social problems through business innovations.”

 

“The SIBI Hub encourages young entrepreneurial minds to come up with creative and alternative development strategies to address the challenges that they face in their daily life” said Mr. Avadh Sharma, Program Lead, HCI Western Terai. “The National Volunteer Programme envisions being connected with youth in every ward of every village/town in the country by 2020 giving an enormous ability to HCI SIBI Hub to reach out to the enterprising young minds in every nook and corner of the country.”

 

Speaking at the program, Mr. Roshan Shrestha, Deputy Chief Technical Advisor of Nepal-German INCLUDE programme said, “To promote an innovative business climate for inclusive and green business development in the six working districts of INCLUDE, the German Development Cooperation supports HCI in spreading already successful as well as promising innovative ideas through the SIBI Hub. This collaboration aims to economically empower the youth while promoting a green economy creating much needed employment and addressing social and environmental challenges.”

 

Mr. Akash Thakur, Lead- HCI SIBI Hub, Nepalgunj said, “Apart from helping young and aspiring entrepreneurs in incubating their ideas by providing work space and inspirational working environment, guidance from experts of various fields, connecting with the investors and existing supply chain of country’s leading business houses, the SIBI Hub at Nepalgunj will be a center to promote and provide volunteering opportunities, educational and career counselling, various skill building trainings to the youth through other initiatives of HCI.”
